Warranty: 3 When a player has none of his/her original letters left, that player says "PEEL" and takes a tile from the bunch. At this point ALL OF THE OTHER PLAYERS MUST ALSO TAKE A TILE FROM THE BUNCH and add it to their collection of letters. 4 At any time, and as often as desired during play, any player may return a difficult-to-use letter back to the center of the BUNCH, face down, but MUST TAKE THREE LETTERS IN RETURN. The player must declare this action to the other players by saying "DUMP". This exchange does not affect the other players. 5 Play continues until there are fewer tiles in the BUNCH than there are players. The first player with no remaining letters shouts "BANANAS" and is the winner of that hand. The other players may now inspect the winning hand for misspelled or incorrect words. Proper nouns are not acceptable. Any available dictionary may be used. If all words are acceptable, that player is the WINNER OF THAT HAND. If any word in the "winning" hand is found to be unacceptable, that player becomes the "Rotten Banana" and is OUT OF THAT HAND, and must return his/her letters, face down to the center bunch and the game now resumes for the remaining players. SUGGESTIONS FOR PLAYING BANANAGRAMS "BEST OF?" A hand can take as little as 5 minutes, so players, if desired, could play for the "best of five" or "the best of ten". BANANA SMOOTHIE (For those who want to play a less hectic game) All tiles are placed face down on the table The letters are divided equally among the players, remaining face down. Players then play the regular BANANAGRAMS game, but there is no "peeling" or "dumping". The first player to use all his/her letters shouts "BANANAS" and is the winner of the hand. If the game ends in a stalemate, the player with the fewest remaining letters is the winner.

5 out of 5 stars more fun than Scrabble; less competitive   July 10, 2010
karenjean
Pros:
small - easy to travel
can talk while playing
no elaborate scoring system
learn new words from opponents
everyone plays at the same time; no taking turns
Cons:
If you're competitive, be aware that the letters don't have individual scores. There is a winner per game and that's it.

I am so glad to have accidentally discovered this game. It is well made and all ages are able to play together! Everyone that sees it wants it. Thanks I have purchase two so far and plan to get more as gifts.

5 out of 5 stars Great casual word game!   June 30, 2010

I've been playing Scrabble for years, and just got a chance to try Bananagrams for the first time a few weeks ago. I really like it! With everyone trying to complete their own boards simultaneously, it's a very fast-paced, energetic game. Bananagrams works well with just a couple of people or a larger group. Since each round lasts just a couple of minutes, if someone wants to get a snack or go to the bathroom or something, they can just sit out a round and nobody else has to wait.

In some ways, the game is more accessible than Scrabble. A good vocabulary still helps a lot, as does a good familiarity with two-letter words, but knowledge of really esoteric long words isn't as important in Bananagrams as in Scrabble. They're two completely different games, and I still do enjoy Scrabble, but I'm definitely a Bananagrams fan now as well. There's a time and a place for both.

5 out of 5 stars Banana - what?   June 28, 2010

This game introduced itself to me when I had to take it away from one of my students. He was tossing a funny yellow bag in the air during class. I asked him to hand it over and his response was, "Okay, but it's educational." A banana educational, I thought, that's a good one. After the kids had left class, I opened the pouch and out spilled the lettered tiles. I was arranging them on my desk when the offending student walked back in to claim his game. He showed me how to play, and in those few minutes, I was hooked.

The "funny yellow bag" became a prize... that is, my students would get their work done quickly in order to play Bananagrams. Who would have thought that a clearly educational game would become a hot ticket at an alternative school - where kids are defiant to write, read or do math?

It wasn't long before we had to give the letters a bath; they were used inside, outside, anywhere we could find flat surfaces. Students (and teachers) found themselves checking dictionaries for words beginning with "J, Q, X, Z" We took turns creating rules - for example, words have to have a science theme, sports theme... you get the idea.

I was so thrilled with this game that I ordered two from Amazon.

It's wonderful fun to leave notes for my teenage son (who thinks I have "gone off the deep end") using Bananagrams tiles.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to purchase this game.. it's money well spent.

Ordered three bananagrams games because it's so much fun and we wanted to give some away as gifts. All three arrived quickly and in excellent condition. The game is great for all ages. It's easy to transport so you can take it with you on trips, etc. It fits in your purse!
